Operalia Award winner Ștefan Pop is one of today’s tenors in international demand, especially in the Italian repertoire. He performs at major opera houses such as Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Berlin State Opera, Dresden Semperoper, Opéra de Paris, Hamburg State Opera, Vienna State Opera, Zurich Opera House, Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro dell’ Opera in Rome, Teatro Comunale in Bologna and Teatro Regio in Parma.

Engagements in the 2026/27 season include Madama Butterfly in Berlin, La Gioconda in London, La Boheme at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Norma in Trieste, Faust in Sidney.

He has worked with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi, Daniele Rustioni, Daniele Gatti, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Michele Mariotti, Nello Santi and others. At the age of 23, in 2010, he won two of the most important international vocal competitions just seven days apart, on two different continents: Operalia, hosted by Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the careful guidance of M° Placido Domingo and the 6th International Music Competition in Seoul, where he won the first prize. In 2019 he won the “Oscar della Lirica Young Generation”.

Ștefan Pop was born in Bistrița, Romania. He graduated from the Academy of Music “Gheorghe Dima” in Cluj-Napoca and won the competition “Hariclea Darclee” as well as the International Music Competition Seoul. In 2015, he was awarded honorary citizenship of his hometown Bistrița.
