Anna Whitney

Anna is a graduate of Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During her studies she was the winner of numerous scholarships and awards, including International Merit Scholarship, John Cassim Award for Music, Italian Opera Foundation Language Scholarship, Opera Auditions Committee and Joan Sutherland Society Study Grants. 



Opera Australia roles include Myrtale (Thaïs), Earth/Aunt Jean/Ms Hodges (Sydney Opera House – The Opera)Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Third Lady (The Magic Flute), Second Bridesmaid (The Marriage of Figaro), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Page/Slave (Salome), Iris (The Love of the Nightingale), Frou-Frou (Merry Widow).



With other companies she has performed the roles of Hansel (Hansel and Gretel), Andronico (Tamerlano), Mrs.Grose (The Turn of the Screw), Lady Billows (Albert Herring), Lisa (Notes from Underground (world premiere)), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Teresa (La Sonnambula), Fede (Fede, Idolatria e Furore).



On the concert platform Anna has performed Requiem (Verdi) Messiah (Handel), Requiem (Mozart), Symphony #3 (Mahler), Symphony No. 9 (Beethoven), Die Erste Walpurgisnacht (Mendelssohn), Christmas Oratorio (Saint- Saëns), Messe op.4 (Saint-Saëns), Coronation Mass (Mozart), Ceremony of Carols (Britten), Missa Sancti Nicolai (Haydn), 7 Early Songs (Berg), Gedichte der Königin Maria Stuart (Schumann), Time Unredeemed (Symonds), The Highlights of Opera (AOAC), Christmas at the House and Great Opera Hits for Opera Australia, as well as broadcasts on 2MBS FM, ABC Radio, and numerous concerts for various music clubs and societies of NSW.



In 2013 she had the honour of being a guest presenter for the Australian Arts in Asia Awards hosted by the Federal Arts Minister Tony Burke.



Anna has frequently appeared as a guest soloist with Sydney Chamber Opera, SSO, SYO, SBS Youth Orchestra, Artsong NSW, The Opera and Arts Support Group, Australian Auditions Commitee, Canberra Symphony, Penrith Symphony, Willoughby Symphonic Orchestra, Marrickville Symphonic Orchestra, Sydney University Graduate Choir, Manly Warringah Choir, Savage Club, Wagner Society and Joan Sutherland Society, among others.

In 2019 Anna will perform the role of Second Bridesmaid in Opera Australia’s The Marriage of Figaro.
