Update: 24 August 2021

We regret to announce the cancellation of Pinchgut Opera’s Purcell and Charpentier concerts in both Sydney and Melbourne in September, due to the implications of the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

Pinchgut Opera will contact all current ticket holders via email with information about how to return your tickets. Thank you for your support and understanding, and we look forward to returning to performing live with our audiences soon.

Venue

Melbourne Recital Centre
31 Sturt Street, Southbank

Running time

approximately 2 hours including interval

Program

Charpentier Te Deum
Charpentier Magnificat
Purcell Come Ye Sons of Art
Purcell Welcome Glorious Morn

The first of Pinchgut Opera’s rescheduled performances from 2020, this is music fit for royalty.

Charpentier’s majestic Te Deum was written in honour of the Sun King, Louis XIV, and its grandeur and elegance reflect the magnificence of his palace at Versailles. Across the Channel, written just one year later, Purcell’s Come, Ye Sons of Art celebrates the birthday of Queen Mary with music of sheer pleasure.
