Actors Auditions: Don Giovanni Madama Butterfly (Melbourne)

Opera Australia is seeking Opera Extras for its forthcoming Melbourne Autumn Season productions of Don Giovanni & Madama Butterfly.  These are non-speaking, non-singing, acting roles for physically fit performers that meet the height criteria below.  Stage experience is essential, as is the ability to take movement direction and perform simple choreography.

Madama Butterfly

2 x Female Actors 160cm-175cm (slim build)
3 x Male Actors  162cm-183cm (slim build)

An audition will be held at the Melbourne Opera Centre, 35 City Road, Southbank on Monday 30 March at 6pm.

Child Actor Audition: Madama Butterfly (Melbourne)

Opera Australia is seeking a male child actor for its forthcoming Melbourne Autumn Season production of Madama Butterfly. This is a non-speaking, non-singing acting role for a child between the ages of 4-6 who meets the height criteria below. The ability to take direction and sit still for extended periods of time is vital.  Hair colour will ideally be blonde, light brown or brown.

An audition will be held at the Melbourne Opera Centre, 35 City Road, Southbank on Monday 30 March at 5pm.

Dancers Audition: Sydney Winter Season General Audition (Sydney)

Opera Australia is holding a General Dance Audition to consider dancers for its 2015 / 2016 Sydney seasons.  At this audition, the company will be casting 7 x female and 7 x male dancers for its upcoming 2015 Sydney winter season production of Turandot.  These are non-speaking, non-singing roles for versatile dancers with a strong classical technique and/or elite-level contemporary dance background.  Stage experience is essential, a minimum of three years professional engagements is an advantage.  Casual contracts will be offered to Sydney-based dancers commencing 25 May and finishing August 28, 2015.                             

An audition will be held in Sydney on Saturday 9 May, 2015.  Dancers who wish to attend are invited to register their interest by forwarding a CV/resume, together with headshot and full-length image to:

Actors and Dancers

Actors and dancers are engaged on casual contracts for individual productions throughout the year.  There are no set dates for auditions.  A casting process is initiated approximately 3-5 weeks prior to the commencement of production rehearsals.

Please include height in centimeters, and details of any unique abilities such as aerial, acrobatic, circus or stilt-walking skills.

Orchestral casual work

Musicians seeking casual work with Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra are invited to apply by forwarding a copy of current resume/CV and a completed application form to:

There are no set dates for casual auditions. Auditions are scheduled at mutually suitable times throughout the year. Your details will be held on file until the orchestra has a need for more casual players of your instrument - at which time you will be contacted.


Singers: General Auditions

General Auditions are held a few times a year in Sydney and Melbourne. Interested singers should send their CV and cover letter to:
