Call for submissions: Male Dancers required for new Opera Australia production

Opera Australia is seeking nine Male Dancers for its forthcoming 2017 Sydney Summer Season of a new production to be choreographed by a leading UK artist (full details will be announced in August at Opera Australia’s 2017 season launch).

This production will commence rehearsals early December 2016 and be performed at the Sydney Opera House throughout January 2017.

Casual contracts will be offered to Sydney-based male dancers, all roles are non-singing/non-speaking.

We are looking for

  • 9 Male Dancers – technically advanced, professional dancers with exceptional skills in contemporary dance, improvisation and contact improvisation. Dancers must possess strong teamwork skills and be willing to collaborate in the creative process.  Dancers must also be comfortable performing bare-chested and/or with minimal costuming.  Musicality and experience working with complex musical accompaniment will also be an advantage.

Dancers' pay rates will be in accordance with the Opera Australia Enterprise Agreement.  Rehearsal rates are currently $40.88/hour (minimum 3 hour call). Performance rates are calculated on skill acquisition and years of professional experience, starting at Level 1 – $214.71/performance through to Level 5 –$266.13/performance (minimum 4 hour call).

Those who wish to be considered are invited to register their interest by forwarding materials to:
Casting Administrator
Opera Australia
casting@opera.org.au

1. CV/resume
2. Headshot and full-length image
3. Video link to 1-2 minutes footage of contemporary dance improvisation, in a studio, no loose clothing

Materials will be reviewed and individuals who are shortlisted will be notified. Final casting decisions will be made as a result of the video links provided — we encourage dancers to ensure their video is adequate quality.
