ACTORS CASTING CALL
Melbourne – Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci
Opera Australia is seeking experienced Actors for its Melbourne season double-bill of Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci, a new co-production with Royal Opera House, Covent Garden directed by Damiano Michieletto and rehearsed by Andy Morton. This production will be performed in the State Theatre of The Arts Centre, Melbourne from 10 May to 20 May, 2017. Casual contracts will be offered to Melbourne-based Actors with rehearsals commencing 18 April 2017.
ROLES AND CASTING CRITERIA
Age range: 30 – 40
Height: 170-174 cm
Plays various roles – a music teacher, a Madonna statue, a punter and an Italian villager called Nedda performing the commedia dell’arte character of Columbine in a stage play. The role must deliver a line of dialogue in Italian. She will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Nedda. Caucasian, slim-medium build, eastern-European background.
Village Baker / Turiddu Double
Age range: 30 – 45
Plays various roles – a baker, a stage-hand and an Italian villager called Turiddu. This actor will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Turiddu. Thick-set, oversized-build, Hispanic or Mediterranean appearance.
Age range: 30 – 40
Plays various roles – a stage hand and an Italian villager called Beppe. Movement skills an advantage - this actor features in a physical commedia dell’arte scene. He will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Beppe. Caucasian background, brown-dark hair, fit build.
Age range: 45 – 55
Plays various roles – a stage-hand, an Italian villager called Tonio performing the commedia dell’arte character of Taddeo in a stage play. This actor will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Tonio. Bald or receding hair, fit-physique, tanned-skin tone, Mediterranean appearance.
Age range: 50 – 60
Plays various roles – a piano teacher, a stage-hand and an Italian villager. This actor has no particular physical requirements, ideally of strong Italian / Mediterranean appearance.
PAY & TERMS
Pay rates will be in accordance with the Opera Australia Enterprise Agreement. Rehearsal and performance rates are dependent on professional experience. Rehearsal rates are currently $33.10 to 36.40/ hour (minimum 3 hour call). Performance rates are currently $165.49 to $181.54/ performance (minimum 4 hour call). Actors must be Melbourne-based for the duration of the season.
CASTING DATE & SUBMISSIONS
A casting session will take place in Melbourne mid-February 2017. Actors who wish to be considered must complete this form. You will be required to upload the following materials:

An invitation to attend the casting session will be emailed to individuals who are successful in their application.
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be available closer to the commencement of rehearsals.
Studio Rehearsals will take place at The Arts Centre, Melbourne between Tuesday 18 April and Tuesday 2 May. Over this period, Actors will need to be available to attend morning, afternoon or evening rehearsals on any day (except Sundays).
Stage rehearsals and performances will take place at the State Theatre, The Arts Centre, Melbourne.
Actors are required to sign-on 30 minutes prior to the following stage call times:
