Dancers: King Roger, Melbourne

9 Male Dancers – technically advanced, professional dancers with exceptional skills in contemporary dance, choreographic improvisation and contact improvisation. Dancers must possess strong teamwork skills and be willing to collaborate in the creative process. Dancers must also be comfortable bare-chested and performing with minimal costuming. Experience working with complex musical accompaniment is an advantage. 

This audition process will be conducted by reviewing video footage submitted by dancers.

PAY & TERMS
Pay rates will be in accordance with the Opera Australia Enterprise Agreement. Rehearsal rates are currently $40.88/ hour (minimum 3 hour call). Performance rates are calculated on skill acquisition and years of professional experience, starting at Level 1 - $214.71/ performance through to Level 5 – $266.13/ performance. Dancers must be Melbourne-based for the duration of the season with permission to work in Australia.

CASTING DATE & SUBMISSIONS
Dancers who wish to be considered must complete this form. You will be required to upload the following materials:
1. CV/resume;
2. Headshot and full-length image;
3. Video link to 1-2 minutes of contemporary dance improvisation, in a studio, no loose clothing.
Materials will be reviewed and individuals who are shortlisted will be notified. Final casting decisions will be made as a result of the video links provided — we encourage dancers to ensure their video is adequate quality.

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
Studio rehearsals take place at Docklands Studios, 476 Docklands Drive, Docklands and stage rehearsals at  Arts Centre Melbourne. Dancers must be available to attend morning, afternoon and/or evening calls over the studio rehearsal period, on any day except Sundays.

Actors: Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci, Melbourne

Opera Australia is seeking experienced actors for its Melbourne season double-bill of Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci, a new co-production with Royal Opera House, Covent Garden directed by Damiano Michieletto and rehearsed by Andy Morton. This production will be performed in the State Theatre of Arts Centre Melbourne from 10 May to 20 May, 2017. Casual contracts will be offered to Melbourne-based actors with rehearsals commencing 18 April 2017.

ROLES AND CASTING CRITERIA

Nedda Double
Age range: 30 – 40                        
Height: 170-174 cm
Plays various roles – a music teacher, a Madonna statue, a punter and an Italian villager called Nedda performing the commedia dell’arte character of Columbine in a stage play. The role must deliver a line of dialogue in Italian. She will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Nedda. Caucasian, slim-medium build, eastern-European background.

Village Baker / Turiddu Double
Age range: 30 – 45                     
Height: 166-174cm
Plays various roles – a baker, a stage-hand and an Italian villager called Turiddu. This actor will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Turiddu. Thick-set, oversized-build, Hispanic or Mediterranean appearance.

Beppe Double
Age range: 30 – 40                        
Height: 174-182cm
Plays various roles – a stage hand and an Italian villager called Beppe. Movement skills an advantage - this actor features in a physical commedia dell’arte scene. He will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Beppe. Caucasian background, brown-dark hair, fit build.

Tonio Double
Age range: 45 – 55    
Height: 174-182cm
Plays various roles – a stage-hand, an Italian villager called Tonio performing the commedia dell’arte character of Taddeo in a stage play. This actor will ideally be physically similar to the opera singer doubling the role of Tonio. Bald or receding hair, fit-physique, tanned-skin tone, Mediterranean appearance.

Italian Villager
Age range: 50 – 60
Height: 166-182cm
Plays various roles – a piano teacher, a stage-hand and an Italian villager. This actor has no particular physical requirements, ideally of strong Italian / Mediterranean appearance.

PAY & TERMS       
Pay rates will be in accordance with the Opera Australia Enterprise Agreement.  Rehearsal and performance rates are dependent on professional experience. Rehearsal rates are currently $33.10 to 36.40/ hour (minimum 3 hour call). Performance rates are currently $165.49 to $181.54/ performance (minimum 4 hour call). Actors must be Melbourne-based for the duration of the season.

A casting session will take place in Melbourne mid-February 2017. Actors who wish to be considered must complete this form. You will be required to upload the following materials:

Studio Rehearsals
Studio Rehearsals will take place at The Arts Centre, Melbourne between Tuesday 18 April and Tuesday 2 May. Over this period, actors will need to be available to attend morning, afternoon or evening rehearsals on any day (except Sundays).

Stage Rehearsals
Stage rehearsals and performances will take place at the State Theatre, The Arts Centre, Melbourne. Actors are required to sign-on 30 minutes prior to the following stage call times:

Male physical performers: Carmen on Sydney Harbour

Opera Australia is seeking experienced male physical performers for its Sydney season of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour — Carmen, a revival production directed by Gale Edwards and rehearsed by Andy Morton. The production will be performed under the stars at Fleet Steps, Mrs Macquaries Point from March 24 to April 23, 2017.  Casual contracts will be offered to Sydney-based performers with rehearsals commencing 21 February 2017.

CASTING CRITERIA

  • Age range: 18-35
  • Height: 168-184cm
  • Will play multiple roles – must have general acrobatic skill, particularly on floor, with some climbing abilities.

PAY & TERMS       
Pay rates will be in accordance with the Opera Australia Enterprise Agreement.  Rehearsal and performance rates are dependent on professional experience. Rehearsal rates are currently $40.88/ hour (minimum 3 hour call). Performance rates are currently $214.71 to $266.13/ performance (minimum 4 hour call). Performers must be Sydney-based for the duration of the season.

CASTING DATE & SUBMISSIONS
A casting session will take place in Sydney mid-January 2017.  Actors who wish to be considered must complete this form. You will be required to upload the following materials:

An invitation to attend the casting session will be emailed to individuals who are successful in their application.

Studio Rehearsals
Studio Rehearsals will take place at The Sports Centre, Sydney Olympic Park between Tuesday 21 February and Monday 13 March.  Over this period, Performers will need to be available to attend morning and afternoon rehearsals on any day (except Sundays).

Stage Rehearsals
Stage rehearsals and performances will take place at Fleet Steps, Mrs Macquaries Point, Sydney. These take place at various times (morning/afternoon/evening) between Tuesday 14 March and Thursday 23 March. Performers must be available for all dates.

Performances
Performers are required to sign-on 30 minutes prior to performance times, evening performances commence at 7.30pm. There will be a total of 26 performances: 24 March-23 April (no performances on Mondays or Good Friday).
