Ji-Min Park

Ji-Min Park trained at the Seoul National University, South Korea, as a student of Professor Philip Kang, and at the Vienna Conservatory, Austria, as a student of Professor Carolyn Hague. He joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in September 2007 where he enjoyed considerable success. Ji-Min was promoted to Principal Young Artist for the 09/10 season. His roles at Covent Garden have included Rodolfo in La boheme and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi.

Ji-Min has won many prizes including First Prize at the 5th Klaudia Taev International Estonian Music Competition, the Vienna Staatsoper Special Prize at the International Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna (2004), First Prize at the 7th International Bidu Sayao Competition in Belem, finalist in the International Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona (2006), and third prize at the International Singing Competition in Toulouse (2008). Ji-Min represented Korea in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition 2009 and was chosen by Peter Katona to represent Covent Garden in the Stella Maris International Vocal Competition onboard MS EUROPA in 2009, in which he was awarded European concerts.

In the 2010/11 season Ji-Min made his debut at Theatre du Capitole Toulouse as Rodolfo in La boheme, covered Romeo in Romeo et Juliette at Covent Garden, and made his Opera Australia debut as Rodolfo to open the seasons in Sydney and Melbourne. In concert he performed Beppe in Pagliacci with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding, L’Enfance du Christ with the Brabants Orkest, Beethoven 9 with the West-East Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim and Opera Galas with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. Ji-Min returned to London to open the Covent Garden 11/12 season as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and Venditore in Il Taborro before singing Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin before making his debut at the New National Theatre Tokyo as Rodolfo and returning to Opera Australia as Alfredo in La Traviata. Ji-Min finished the season as Iopas in a new production of les Troyens at Covent Garden, conducted by Antonio Pappano before performing an Opera Gala concert for Opera North. Engagements in the 12/13 season included Romeo in Romeo et Juliette for Opera de Bauge, Alfredo in La Traviata for his debut at La Fenice and Ernesto in Don Pasquale for Opera Australia.

Engagements in the 13/14 season included Alfredo for his debut with Welsh National Opera, Rodolfo for Opera North, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore in Santiago, Arturo in La Straniera for his debut with the Moscow State Philharmonic Society, and the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In the 14/15 season and beyond he sings Alfredo for Opera North, Ernesto in Don Pasquale for his debut with Cincinnati Opera, a gala concert for Scottish Opera, and his return to Opera Australia.

As Jette Parker Principal during the 09/10 season, his roles included Sailor in Tristan und Isolde, Gastone in La Traviata, Rodolfo in la boheme, Messenger in Aida and covering Carlo in Linda di Chamounix, Des Grieux in Manon, and Alfredo in La Traviata. Ji-Min joined the Royal Opera tour to Japan in the summer of 2010 where he covered Des Grieux and sang Gastone in La Traviata and Handel’s Messiah in concert conducted by Antonio Pappano. Other engagements have included Don José Carmen, Ferrando Così fan tutte and Ernesto Don Pasquale for Opera de Baugé, Duca Rigoletto in Budapest, Rodolfo La Boheme in Seoul, a televised opera gala concert in Korea, a celebrity gala concert with Audley Male Voice Choir, and recitals at La Scala Milan, La Fenice, in Geneva, and for the Royal Opera lunchtime recital series. Ji-Min opened the Aalborg Opera Festival in Denmark in 2010 with a recital.
