Young Woo Kim

With 27 performances of Cavaradossi Tosca to his credit last season, South Korean tenor Young Woo Kim returns to the role in 2024-25 at Staatsoper Hamburg and Deutsche Oper am Rhein. At Oper Frankfurt he sings Radames Aida and at Oper Köln, where he’s a member of the ensemble, he sings Ismaele Nabucco and Don Jose Carmen. Recent highlights include his debut as Bacchus Ariadne auf Naxos at Garsington Opera, Radames at Theater Bielefeld, Erik Der fliegende Holländer at Die Felsenbühne Festspiele and at Oper Köln, Don Jose at Staatsoper Hannover, Cavaradossi at Oper Hamburg, at Oper Köln and with Australian Opera in 2024. Other principal roles in Köln include Hylas Les Troyens, the title role Faust, Don Jose, Siegmund Die Walkure fur jung und alt, and Hoffegut Die Vögel. Beginning his career, he entered Italy’s UNESCO Opera Competition and placed first, which enabled him to make his European debut as Rodolfo La boheme at Verona’s Teatro Filarmonico.
