Deepen your engagement and help bring Wagner's work to life.

The opera canon of Richard Wagner brings together people from all over the world like no other composer. What is it about this particular composer that draws people in? The music, the text, the larger-than-life set requirements?

We invite you to step behind the curtain and discover the artistry that brings Wagner’s epic works to life by joining our Wagner Syndicate. In this momentous year as Opera Australia celebrates its return to our Melbourne performing home, the Ian Potter State Theatre at Arts Centre Melbourne, Wagner’s music will form a central role in welcoming our audiences back to this beautifully renovated venue.

Tannhäuser

Arts Centre Melbourne

Wagner’s epic opera pits love against purity of heart, and the battle plays out in extraordinary, luscious music.

A world premiere of a new production is always a highlight for any opera company, particularly a brand-new Wagner production. This will be Sir David McVicar’s very first Tannhäuser, and a real treat for Australian audiences.

McVicar is one of the most talked about opera directors this century. He brings his incisive, provocative style to Wagner’s epic story of lust, redemption and what it means to be good. Orchestra Victoria will be conducted by Opera Australia’s new Music Director Andrea Battistoni, who leads a remarkable cast including tenor Sergei Skorokhodov in the title role.
