Alexander Koppelmann
Lighting Designer
Alexander Koppelmann is a Berlin based lighting designer, who started his career as a casual at the Berlin Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz while still working on his PhD in economics.
He finally opted for drama theatre. From 1985 to 1998 he worked at the Schaubühne as a permanent, starting designing in 1989. Since 1992 he has been working for opera as well (Salome at the Salzburger Festspiele).
Since 1998 he has been working as a freelancer, designing at most major theatres and opera companies in Germany and Europe, as well as in the US and Japan.
Among his latest works are Cinderella (Prokoviev) with Meryl Tankard at the Oper Leipzig and the Monteverdi project (Orpheo, Ulysses and Poppea) with Barrie Kosky at the Komische Oper Berlin.
Madama Butterfly is his debut with Opera Australia.
