Ali McGregor
Ali McGregor, a former scholar at the Royal Northern College of Music, UK, began her career with Opera Australia in 2000 under Simone Young’s mentorship. As a principal soprano, she portrayed over 26 roles, including Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Ninette (Love of Three Oranges), Marcellina (Fidelio) & Yum Yum (The Mikado). She also appeared with NZ Opera as Zerlina and, most recently, as Desiree in Victorian Opera’s A Little Night Music.
Ali is an award-winning cabaret artist, performing everywhere from Glastonbury to Carnegie Hall and was co-artistic director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2016-2018 and 2023. She received an ARIA nomination in 2014 for her children’s album Jazzamatazz!, has won numerous Green Room Awards and a Helpmann Award in 2018 for her show, Yma Sumac – The Peruvian Songbird.
She conceptualized and starred in Lorelei (Victorian Opera) and The Call (Opera Queensland and Brisbane Festival, 2022), co-produced by her company FLUXUS. Ali is the recipient of the 2023/24 Australia Council Fellowship.
