Timothy Murray

Timothy Murray joined the Opera Australia Orchestra as Principal Contrabassoon in 2023. He previously held the position of Principal Contrabassoon with Orchestra Victoria since 2015. Timothy studied at the Conservatorium High School before completing a Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Andrew Barnes. During the last year of his undergraduate studies, he participated in the Sydney Symphony Fellowship program. He went on to complete a Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Music, Theatre und Medien Hannover, studying bassoon with Bence Boganyi and contrabassoon with Florian Raß. Timothy has taught at the University of Melbourne and the Australian National Academy of Music. He has also performed as Guest Principal Bassoon with the Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras.
