The PR Internship at Opera Australia has been created to give media, communications and marketing experience in arts publicity and communications. This is the perfect first step for any student who hopes to work in arts PR and arts administration, and would like to understand how the PR, marketing and ticketing side of the business works. The internship will involve participants learning and engaging in publicity-related administrative tasks, including media database management, building media lists, reporting, distributing performance information for media listings, PR invoicing/budgeting, website updating, and assisting during opening nights and media calls.
To qualify for this amazing opportunity to work with Australia’s largest arts and opera company, you must be currently enrolled in a communications, marketing, media, or related degree. Current enrolment in degrees with majors in communications/PR/related disciplines will also be accepted. You will have an interest in performing arts/publicity, have the ability to work across a range of online platforms, demonstrate a high level of self-organisation and reliability, be able to liaise with industry contacts professionally, and be comfortable using MS Office applications, and other databases.

In 2020, La Traviata returns to the iconic stage at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. The purpose built opera house will accommodate a 26m x 19m stage, two sound and lighting towers and an access walkway on Farm Cove. Fleet Steps will house a seating structure for approximately 3,000 people, four general admission catering areas, a platinum dining area, public amenities and backstage facilities.
We are offering students from a range of disciplines the opportunity to gain experience in the planning and operations involved in putting on this large-scale outdoor theatre event.
Students will have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from industry professionals to gain hands on experience through observing and participating in the critical work activities of this dynamic and unique event.

The Manufacturing Department offers work experience placements to high-school and tertiary-level students to give them the opportunity to gain practical experience and an insight into the varied departments and professions encountered within the Live Performance industry.
Each placement is negotiated on a case by case basis and depends on the department’s capacity at the time. To enquire about doing work experience in the Manufacturing Department, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note: we can only accept students currently studying a related field at high-school or tertiary-level, all students must be Year 10 or above and 16 years of age. International students are welcomed however Opera Australia cannot provide visa support. All students/interns will be required to provide proof that they are covered by public liability insurance by a recognised school, tertiary institution or referral agency.
