Background: Former Music director of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra; currently Music director Vancouver Opera. Awarded the German Music Publisher's prize for the best concert season 2009-10 and the Echo Klassic prize for the best concerto recording, 2011. Received the 'Mercartorplakette' for services to music. Recipient of the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres; Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, London
