Background: Graduated from NIDA 1962. Over forty-five years association with Opera Australia from the
early 1960s. Appointed Artistic Administrator of the Company, 1974. Artistic Director, 1984-1999.  Awarded
the AM, 1985.  Awarded the inaugural Dame Joan Hammond Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to opera in Australia, 1986. Winner of 1998 Green Room Award (Best Director) for Madama Butterfly and a 1999 Special Green Room Award for his contribution to opera. Presenter Sunday Night at the Opera on ABC Classic FM 2004-2007 and in 2005 his book Timing is Everything was published by ABC Books
